Introduction

Obligatory introductory post (this will be short)

I wasn’t actually going to write one of these; however, it seemed a good idea just to give people a clue. I am an evolutionary developmental biologist by profession, currently on a parental leave that has extended far beyond my original plans thanks to the vagaries of short-term postdoctoral contracts. I am also a lifelong science fiction devotee attempting to become a SF writer. So I have decided to write about all the things I usually witter on about to people over beer or tea. The sciency things (mostly biology), and the science-fictiony things, and the boundaries and sometimes fuzzy overlap between them. I hope later to include links to my fiction, published or otherwise. No doubt this will evolve as it goes along. Yes, I am writing to keep myself sane, or at least to enhance the quality of conversation I have talking to myself. No, I won’t be posting prolifically, but, I hope, will do so with at least a degree of quality. The title of the blog comes from one of my favourite words, liminal, translated into Norwegian; I am of Anglo-Norwegian heritage.

adjective: liminal
  1. 1.
relating to a transitional or initial stage of a process.
  2. 2.
occupying a position at, or on both sides of, a boundary or threshold.
